Pupils are taught in smaller class sizes, creating a good staff-pupil ratio that beneficial to a more personalised learning programme. The curriculum at this level is built around the framework of the National Curriculum guidelines, which we see as the bare minimum. We take every opportunity to challenge our pupils to think for themselves and to participate readily in the classroom. We encourage them to discuss their learning and to understand how to make further progress.
Reading aloud individually is encouraged on a daily basis and children learn at their own speed with guidance and assistance. Reading diaries are used effectively as part of our home-school links.
Specialist teachers continue to take subjects such as French, PE/Games, ICT, Dance, Science and Music so that the class teachers can concentrate on the core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Humanities.
