Old Oaklandians Alumni Association
At Oaklands School we highly value our connection with our former staff and pupils. Now that the school has started the Old Oaklandians Alumni Association, we hope to keep in touch with our ex-pupils and staff on a more regular basis through general newsletters and on an ad hoc basis.
We are active on Facebook and encourage former staff and pupils to engage with each other and the school. Click here to view our Facebook page and catch up with old friends, share memories and stay up to date with the latest Alumni news and information.
75th Anniversary Celebration
Sunday 1 July 2012 saw Oaklands welcome over 300 past pupils, staff and friends to our 75th Anniversary Reunion in a marquee on the school playing field. The Main Hall and Studio were full of photographs, registers and general memorabilia from 1937 onwards, and many Old Oaklandians spent hours hunting for references to themselves in the archives.
Guests were treated to a Champagne reception on arrival, opening songs by the Choir and tours of the school by some 40 current children. An innovative lunch was served by the catering company that had the ‘wow factor’!
After lunch Nicholas Hagger spoke about his time as a pupil at Oaklands in the 1940s and about how he and his wife, Ann Hagger, came to take over from Miss Lord in 1982. Carol Norris, who worked for many years alongside Miss Lord, the school’s founder, spoke about the unique ethos of the school in its early days.
Matthew Hagger, Managing Principal of the Oak-Tree Group, commented, “It’s extraordinary that there have only been two sets of owners of Oaklands in 75 years. This has clearly contributed to the friendly, family atmosphere of which we are so proud. We were delighted to see so many past pupils and staff celebrating with us and taking their trip down memory lane”.
