Year 5 visit The Royal Gunpowder Mills

Pupils in Year 5 enjoyed discovering what life was like in Victorian Britain and explored how changes to work, education and leisure shaped the world we live in today. Through an exciting and interactive performance, pupils met Henry Gaunt, a Victorian employee at the Royal Gunpowder Mills. They found out why this place was a site of local, regional, national and international significance. They examined historical objects, explored the site and investigated what Victorian buildings, structures and artefacts could tell us about the past. It was an enjoyable visit and the children did exceptionally well as history detectives.
